Netherlands returns to Eurovision Song Contest for 2027

The Netherlands is officially returning to the Eurovision Song Contest for 2027.

Dutch public broadcasting organisation NPO has decided to bring the Netherlands back to the competition, meaning the country will be represented when Eurovision heads to Burgas, Bulgaria, next May.

The confirmation comes after AVROTROS announced in August that it would no longer participate in the Eurovision Song Contest. Following that decision, the European Broadcasting Union continued discussions with NPO about the possibility of another Dutch broadcaster taking part.

Those discussions have now resulted in the Netherlands returning to the Eurovision stage for 2027.

Eurovision Song Contest Director Martin Green CBE welcomed the decision, saying:

“We are delighted to welcome the Netherlands back to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2027.”

Green said the EBU valued its constructive discussions with NPO and looked forward to working together to strengthen Eurovision as a competition that reflects the spirit of “United by Music.”

He also highlighted the Netherlands’ long history with the Contest. The country was one of the seven nations that participated in the very first Eurovision Song Contest in 1956.

The EBU said it is “very happy” that the Netherlands will once again join the Eurovision family on stage in Burgas.

The Eurovision Song Contest 2027 will take place at Arena Burgas, with the Semi-Finals scheduled for 11 and 13 May and the Grand Final taking place on 15 May 2027.

Further details about the Netherlands’ participation, including the broadcaster responsible for its entry and how its artist and song will be selected, are expected to be announced later.
